Questions later emerged about security failures, FBI informants/undercover agents present, and the full context of protester behavior.

Left-leaning outlets uniformly called it an “armed insurrection” or “attempted coup,” often comparing it to 9/11 or the Confederacy. Right-leaning outlets emphasized it as a protest that got out of control, highlighted security failures, and questioned the exaggerated narrative. This remains one of the most polarized media bias examples.
